How Pixel Weather works
How it works
Where the weather comes from
The forecast comes from Open-Meteo, a free weather service that uses the models of national weather agencies. Your browser never talks to Open-Meteo itself: it asks this site, and this site asks Open-Meteo, so your IP address is never sent to them. Your location is rounded to about 1 km before the request goes out.
Why it loads fast
Answers are kept for a few minutes on Cloudflare, close to you. If someone nearby just looked up the same place, you get that answer at once, and older answers are shown straight away while a fresh one is fetched in the background.
The pixel sky
Each weather code in the forecast picks a scene: clear, cloudy, fog, rain, snow or a storm, by day or by night. The rain is made of moving pixels, and it stays still if your phone asks for less motion. The last city you looked up is saved in your browser, so the app opens there next time; otherwise it starts with Bhadohi.
